British Volunteer Fighting ISIS Chose To Kill Himself Rather Than Be Captured
Fox News — A British man who volunteered to join Kurdish fighters in Syria faced imminent capture by the Islamic State terror group — and chose to kill himself rather than become a prisoner, his parents told U.K. media on Wednesday.
Ryan Lock, a 20-year-old chef from West Sussex, had no military experience but felt compelled to lend a hand in the terror fight, Sky News reported. His parents said he told them he’d be vacationing in Turkey last August, but instead joined the Kurdish militia known as the YPG.
Lock and at least four other fighters were surrounded by ISIS fighters on Dec. 21 in Ja’bar, west of the terror group’s Syrian hub of Raqqa, the BBC reported. None of the five made it out alive.
Just wanted to take a second to comment on this story. Ryan Lock — a 20-year-old British chef — was so discontent with ISIS and everything they stand for that he chose to take up arms with the Kurdish militia. Amazing. Took himself straight to the YPG, to the front lines, to where real manpower is needed, to where someone can physically, realistically, practically, measurably make a difference. And he fought and fought.
Even after his mates and comrades were killed in different strikes, he vouched to stay. He vouched to finish out the 6 months he had committed to.
And when ISIS forces eventually surrounded his position in an offensive over Raqqa, faced with the realization of capture by ISIS terrorists, he made the impossible decision to end his life on his terms, not theirs.
Just a pretty normal dude…
…doing extraordinarily courageous things to help people that have no chance to help themselves. To better the world.
Ryan Lock, remember that name.
